ORGANIZER & ACTIVIST CHALLENGES REPRESENTATIVE JOE WILSON

LEXINGTON, SC — SC native Gregory Karr, originally of Aiken, has entered the 2022 race for South Carolina’s 2nd congressional district seat. He is running as a Democrat.

“Gregory Karr will not go to Washington to make nice with the establishment and the elite, because they do not have the slightest understanding of our lives, nor any concern for the breath in our lungs or the food in our stomachs,” Karr’s newly released campaign website, www.karrforcongress.com, states. “Gregory will go to Washington to demand the dignity and economic security that We the People are owed, and he will fight like hell to win it all!”

Gregory Karr has been active in political organizing throughout the state since 2006, when he began participating in actions with a Columbia-based peace organization. Since then, he has organized around a variety of issues that impact working people’s lives daily. He has worked with multiple progressive electoral campaigns and organizations, in addition to independent community organizing efforts, both inside and outside of South Carolina.

Gregory Karr is the first Democratic candidate to offer a challenge to Joe Wilson’s 2022 re-election effort, amid a wave of national and local ire over Republican lawmakers’ opposition to federal relief measures that have been highly popular over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic. With his campaign website now live, Karr will release a formal announcement video in the coming days. The campaign is also planning an official kick-off event, scheduled for early August, with further details to be announced in the coming weeks.

“It’s the people that matter, we and our families, and I intend to take this fight to Joe and to anyone, anytime and anywhere, who stands between us and the better lives that we and our loved ones deserve,” Karr states in an excerpt from his planned announcement.
